The Fashion ‘n’ Fabrics shop has serving the thriving community of quilters, seamstresses, knitters, crocheters and crafters in and around St. Albans for 50 years – you could say we are very much part of the 'fabric' of that community.
We are firm believers that there are too many mass-produced, commonplace goods in our world today - often made from ethically questionable materials and manufacturing practices - and celebrate the hard work, care and skill of those that sew, knit, crochet, quilt and craft their own unique items from scratch. Our aim is to enable and inspire the creativity of young and old alike with our wide range of fabrics and haberdashery.
We are proud suppliers of premium quality cotton fabric from respected brands (such as Lewis and Irene, Michael Miller, Timeless Treasures, Henry Glass, Moda, Hoffman, Nutex, etc.), as well as a large range of equally beautiful fabrics at a lower price point. We also have a massive selection of polycottons, cotton and polyester jerseys, organza, fleece, chiffon, satin-backed crepe, velvet, corduroy...everything, really!
Yarns are another area we have consciously expanded to include many current brands and types. We are delighted to stock, among others, Wool and the Gang, Rowan, Sublime, Ricorumi, Sirdar, Stylecraft and lots of other well-priced yarns in a range of colours and types as well as a comprehensive selection of knitting and crochet needles.
Of course, we also stock a full range of haberdashery and accessories, such as threads, ribbon, lace, buttons, zips, scissors, rotary cutters and so on to ensure you have everything you could possibly need.
As you can imagine, our brick and mortar store is an 'Aladdin's cave' of fabric, yarn and haberdashery with something for everyone from novice to expert...and we are excited to offer this broad range online.
We also provide a thriving learning hub with classes on a wide variety of relevant skills such as quilting, crochet, needlefelting, dressmaking, etc. We are passionate about making good quality products available to like-minded people, and our experienced staff are always ready to furnish customers with useful and insightful advice when needed. This makes for a great in-store experience and an ideal destination and meeting place for creative people.
A bit of history...
My name is Simone Taylor, and I am very pleased to own and run Fashion 'n' Fabrics. The store was started in 1971 by the late Christine Campbell, and it is a privilege to be able to carry on and grow the legacy which has been an important part of the local community over that time.
As a mum to three children and a menagerie of pets, I first fell in love with quilting after taking a small break to attend a patchwork class at the store in 2011. I started a monthly course with the muilti-award winning Judith Wilson and loved discovering the wonderful array of designer fabrics and exploring how best to combine them in interesting ways for the best results. And so, from my love of quilting and my passion for fabrics was born.
The store has been renovated and given a brighter, fresher look and layout, the ranges of fabric and wool updated, we have an extensive range of classes for all ages and abilities – so I look forward to sharing the bright future of Fashion 'n' Fabrics with all our old and new customers.
